A New City depicts the stark - and increasingly unapologetic - actions of a young woman who breaks free of “The Message” cult. The primary goal of our protagonist, Ginny, is to gain the freedom to fly and see the world after shedding the skin of the only life she's ever known in search of independence and light. When she finds that escaping her old life isn’t as easy as she thought, Ginny begins her metamorphoses into a new one – but can she find a way to save her loved ones as well?
Based on the real-life experience of Branhamism cult survivor, Sam Ratelle, A New City is anything but a conventional musical. Pulsing with an original R&B score, shattering visuals, and powerful themes, this visceral new musical experience will inspire anyone who has ever felt trapped in their current circumstances to finally break free.
A New City, which will begin workshops in 2021, features a book by Crystal Skillman and music and lyrics by Sam Ratelle.
